About
Biography
I was born in Seoul in ’93, moved to Calgary in ’00, and moved to Vancouver in ’14.
I just love hip hop, and I love beats. Younger me would listen to old-school hip hop even when my friends mocked me for it. I just loved the energy and feeling of ’90s hip hop. I still listen to ’90s New York hip hop every day.
But when I started making my own beats, there seemed to be a more melancholy, emotional style to it. I always liked the contrast between elegance and hip hop. It felt like turning something dirty, which was something I was more comfortable with.
My sound doesn’t fit the “Chill, Lofi, Jazz Beats” genre. It’s a different take: an urban, darker take. I never had an interest in flipping soul samples. I usually work with avant-garde jazz, soul jazz, fusion, prog rock, and psych rock.
My latest tape, half (2023), features some of that melancholy and ominous vibe. Other tracks are more chaotic, layered with vocal samples that often speak for me.
